Athletic training and competition have been an integral part of Alexi’s life since age 11. His early years were shaped by cross-country running and Shotokan Karate. Since then he has been active in a number of sports and movement disciplines: crew, rugby, baseball, Aikido, and yoga.  Alexi began consistently training his strength and conditioning while attending UBC. Though motivated to keep fit, his workout regimen always left him searching for something more. The community and discipline of Karate were absent and he could not shake the feeling that there was a certain emptiness to the endless, repetitive sets and reps.

  • More about Alexi

    CrossFit changed everything.

“I can still clearly remember the first time I saw a CrossFit workout in person. My training partner and I were in the gym working hard, or so we thought. In came a barrel-chested guy whom we had seen before. He started a workout with what I would later learn are cleans and burpees. It was the most impressive display of strength and fitness I had ever seen first hand! As soon as he was done I went up to him to ask him what he was doing. ‘CrossFit,’ he said, panting. I was hooked. That was more than four years ago.”

It was CrossFit that brought meaning and purpose back to Alexi’s pursuit of fitness via goal-focused programming, competitive drive, and a community-based approach.

Alexi’s coaching career began shortly after taking up Karate when his instructor made him teacher of a class of six and seven year old white belt students. Since then he has worked with clients and athletes of all ages and abilities to improve their fitness across a broad spectrum of movement modalities.

Important influences in Alexi’s coaching and training: Mark Rippetoe, James FitzGerald, Greg Glassman, Moshe Feldenkrais, Ido Portal, Gichin Funakoshi, Steve Flores, Rudolph Nielsen and Jackie Chan.
